117 Days of James Patterson – Day Two

Day Two, Chapter Two
I’m feeling refreshed and ready to tackle this project – I feel as if I’m testing myself in some way, sort of like that guy who lived like a character from the bible for a whole year or the way Ted Conover became a prison guard so that he could write a book about prisons. Let’s rock this thing!

“What the hell, Casey?” he snapped. “I wasn’t staring at Sheila’s boobs, for Christ’s sake…and frankly, sweetheart, I find your paranoia very unattractive.”

Sigh.  Most of Chapter 2 is about Sarah listening to Marcus and Casey having sex in the adjacent room, the headboard banging against the wall. “Oh dear God, they’re doing it.” When they’re finally in a post-coital slumber, Sarah makes her getaway attempt, only to be foiled by the console table filled with the “whatnots”, which crash to the floor as she “vault[s] to the windowsill”. She jumps out the window & escapes in her old Saturn with her duffel bags filled with jewels.

“Honestly. She didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry.”

I hear you, sister.

Go to Day Three.

Man, his craftsmanship is… simply unrivaled. He nails it like this during the first draft is my guess. A master.

When I read Don't Blink I was awe struck by the sheer high school lower set homework nature of the writing. Substandard dross that for some reason I stuck with till it's predictable clumsy and contrived conclusion. Hours of my life I will never get back. Godspeed with your task my friend.
