Cloud Cover

“Hey, hey, hey, finally people are listening to me!” he said into the internet megaphone he keeps at his bedside.

Cloud Atlas has spent the last 5 weeks hanging around on the New York Times bestseller list – presumably because the book is awesome and they found out about it on the Book Catapult, not because of Tom Hanks and his Mike Tyson face tattoo. Regardless of how you found Mr. Mitchell’s Magnum Opus, don’t buy this silly edition pictured here, pal. You’ll look like a jerk and everyone on the bus will judge you.

Seth u may be right about the movie. It is being received very well at toronto film festival. Maybe i will have to bury my tom hanks aversion and see it! Not sure if you've read life of pi but it may be interesting to see what ang lee does with it. And then there's midnights children…

Cool, Heather, that's good to hear. I really hope it doesn't suck – and that it makes people want to read them some D.Mitchell. Everything I've seen so far seems way more promising than I originally thought it would be. Still, it could still suck… And I did read Pi when it was hot-shit back in the day and I've often wondered if it would hold up if I read it again. I think I'll just watch the movie instead. I just went and watched the trailer – which looks pretty stunning, visually. We'll see.

And Christine, you're right, the movie art is always 1000x worse than any of the original cover art. (And this one's far from inspiring.) Although, now that I'm buying books for a college market, I'm amazed at how well the movie-tie-in editions sell. It baffles me, but hey, what do I know?

After seeing the trailer, which rivals the STARGATE trailer as best trailer ever, getting a glimpse of the movie tie-in cover is like a bucket of cold water dumped on my head. Is that like a Herman Wouk The Winds of War TV Miniseries vibe I am getting from this? Please tell me this isn't the movie poster. The mish-mash of costumes makes it look like a dinner theater production, rather than capturing the multiple narratives. Good job Photoshop guru! Must watch trailer again to cleanse.
